I wish the likes of Inkscape had a SMIL feature (or if I had a magic want I'd revive KDE's Karbon to be able to do this). Doing SMIL animations "by hand" is rather tricky and as far as I know there's no comprehensive tool to do this - i.e. something that fully covers both SVG and SMIL.
In 2004, when they were working on 0.40, it was on the roadmap for 0.49 <<a href="https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Roadmap&oldid=4153#Milestone_15_-_Animation_-_Inkscape_0.49" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Roadmap&oldid...>. Unfortunately it never happened, though they invite people interested in implementing it to join the development team <<a href="https://inkscape.org/learn/animation/" rel="nofollow">https://inkscape.org/learn/animation/>.
yeah... i dunno why SMIL doesn't get much love. The only reason why I learned about this I was looking at features chrome deprecated over the years and came across this thread <a href="https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/blink-dev/c/5o0yiO440LM" rel="nofollow">https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/blink-dev/c/5o0yi...... they wanted to kill it.
