Every bubble goes through this phase just before it pops. Pre-implosion Twitter had tons of folks doing useless “research” projects, WeWork had folks studying furniture design’s impact on wellbeing, and so on.
When you’re more worried about this sort of stuff vs generating profit then the history books strongly indicate that’s usually not a good omen of what’s coming next.
I don’t get your comment for WeWork. Is the current estate industry any better with how dry their industry is? Compared to a company caring enough to do research of this type? Tell me a single real estate giant that has even just 5 guys working in R&D of this type and not money related projects…
We can’t blame them when they are looking to squeeze more profits and at the same time blame the ones who try to do things different.
