ICC judge on what U.S. sanctions mean for her and global courts

    This is at once thuggish and petty. If the US Govt doesn’t recognize the ICC then…don’t? Going after individual judges is mafia tactics.

    It’s also guaranteed to backfire - no judge who by definition deeply believes in the mission and legitimacy of the ICC is going to be deterred by these tactics.

      I mean if I and a group of my friends got together to plan the kidnap of a foreign leader I would not be surprised if it pissed off that leader's allies and they sanctioned me.

      This would apply no matter how justified I felt that kidnapping the leader of a nuclear state would somehow help world peace.

          Right and if I was on the team that ordered that I would not be surprised if Iran were to sanction me.

          EDIT: And in fact we see this, Russia sanctions western politicians based on their support for Ukraine quite often
