AI makes me sad because as a self taught programmer that reorganized and got my entire life together over the course of a year, coming from absolutely nothing, I was really trying to make this career start for about 3 years up until last year. Juniors, heck even Seniors, with degrees and experience can't even get jobs. Add in the fact that the low skill grunt work you once would assign to a junior can be solved by some models, why would anyone on earth bother hiring me?
I've tried networking, but most of my network is also looking for jobs or their entire department has been outsourced to the third world armed with AI. I'm occasionally writing some software for myself and for fun, but I truly do feel like I missed the boat and there's not going to be another boat arriving.
I will admit to skill issues, but how am I to earn valuable experience without ever being offered the chance to even skill up? You only learn so much on your own.
