I lived in China for years and returned there last summer for visit after 9 years and to sum it up what can probably describe China easiest for you despite the hype in media - prices and salaries are pretty much same as 9 years ago, can you imagine that in developing country?
Restaurant bill or job offers posted everywhere are basically same as 9 years ago and didn't changed, similar with real estate prices, in-laws bought investment apartment years ago, if they would sell it now, they would sell it at loss probably, similar thing with rents.
China is stucked in one place with less and less jobs for young people while there is less and less young people at same time (as share on whole population), sounds like deadly cocktail to me similar to Japan, the difference being Japan at least reached pretty developed status before getting into this status quo.
So much for the permanent GDP growth somehow not projecting into daily lives of Chinese.
