When I buy an EV, one of the first things I intend to do is disable or block the chips using Wi-Fi and/or cellular from broadcasting further. If that means a faraday shield around the computers in question, so be it.

Everything I need can be handled via CarPlay or physical dials/buttons in the vehicle. All this surveillance - on post-COVID priced vehicles no less, averaging ~$50k - is absurd, and I refuse to engage with it.

Some cars you can just pull the fuse on the ECU with the modem.

This is the right way to deal with the problem. I would simply pull the fuse or unplug the cellular modem though.

This doesn't stop the vehicle from recording telemetry, just transmitting it

Take your car to a dealership for service and one of the first things their software does is download all of the data and phone it home

The second thing they do is punch all of your information into their computers anyways to be slurped up by Carfax[1] and company, so everyone knows you got an oil change and tire rotation anyways, as a bonus.

(Third thing is filling out an online form to re-activate your dead SiriusXM system in your vehicle as a "3 month free trial" as a "gift" for coming in today...[2])
