    Stuff like this should not be legal?

    Isn’t it illegal? It’s actual false advertising. You can sue them, it’s just no one has.

        Advertising ten years of support, then, post-purchase of the device, reducing that period by 2 years.

          Except that they didn't reduce the period, they'll migrate people to new OS.

            May own pessimism (based on Google's history) aside, I would argue that while it may fulfill the words of the promise, it surely doesn't fulfill the intent: ChromeOS is a different beast than GooglebookOS. ffs, Google just spent a lot of effort publicizing exactly that.
