How does the Rust compiler's speed compare to the speed of the C compiler GCC

    Is it slower

It’s not compiling C code, so that’s not really possible to answer. C is uniquely fast to compile, especially compared with more featureful languages like C++ and Rust.

In practice, C++ and Rust feel pretty similar, mostly due to the kind of code people tend to write in both languages (favoring static dispatch, generics/templates, etc.).

Nowadays it is fast, back in the 2000's was still able to take one hour per platform on our application servers, when doing a clean build.

Compilers for languages like BASIC, Delphi, Eiffel, Modula-2, Caml Light, Oberon, Clipper, COBOL, were running circles around C compilers back then.
