I think it you are really smart, the end aim isn't to be an electrician. The end aim is to run a crew or own an business with multiple electricians working for you. Doing that can pay very well.
Exactly this. Everyone I know who "got rich" in trades work (including several of my neighbors) did it for 10 years or so, got a reputation for being smart and reliable, saved their money, and then started their own business.
