A buddy of mine is a former car mechanic of over a decade who recently got his first job in software dev, i hired him. It being his first desk job and all, i was asking him if that felt odd at all. He of course mentioned the stuff you'd imagine; boy its nice not being on my knees all day, having AC, etc. But what struck me most was that he said it was nice being around educated people. At his shop, he'd have angry customers, crackheads, and dipshit coworkers. Talking about anything other than some ignorant bullshit was an impossibility because, frankly, many of his coworkers were just dumb.
