   Why didnt the people who mastered iron just conquer and continue civilization? Like we see with every other case where there is a tech advantage.

         The article didn't explain how a well organized civilization couldn't reap the benefits of a new technology faster. Guns were fairly decentralized tech. Civilization didn't collapse.
