Thanks, this is one of these small things I’m used to working around instead of finding a solution.

Countless times I’ve used the browser address bar to reduce text to plain text. Which in some browsers doesn’t work anymore (feature): which could be worked around by pasting more, then removing a character. - It was fast and always in view. The real issue is that I usually don’t want formatting… until I do. :)

Isn&#x27;t there a shortcut to past without formatting? Ctrl+Shift+v? (Or whatever the hell Apple came up with for macOS.)

That&#x27;s right, cmd+shift+V pastes without formatting. And there&#x27;s also a context menu option for that.

I’ve noticed more that context menu doesn’t appear frequently

Just yesterday I noticed that if you do &quot;paste text only&quot; when pasting a URL in Outlook, the link is no longer clickable, just a string of text. Maybe it would turn into a clickable link by the time the email reaches its recipient, who knows. But I ended up doing the &quot;paste into notepad and re-copy&quot; thing.

Normally I also use the address bar, but these days if you copy-paste a web address from Edge to Outlook&#x2F;Teams, it won&#x27;t show up as the URL itself but the page&#x27;s title as a hyperlink.

      Browser bar technique - yes!

Alt+Tab (switch to browser), Alt+D (to get to the browser bar), Ctrl+V (paste), Ctrl+A (select all), Ctrl+C (copy), Alt+Tab (switch to application), Ctrl+V (paste unformatted text)

What a muscle memory! Wish Ctrl+Shift+V (paste plain text) was standardized at the OS level.

Note: Using Mint Debian Linux, but the same flow seems to apply to Windows &amp; Mac.

&gt; This app is currently not available in your country or region.

    Fuck you Apple.

It&#x27;s up to the developer to choose where to publish it.
    2. jefftk · · focus · HN ↗
That&#x27;s weird, I thought I selected all the regions. Where are you based?

I always used Alfred for this. A snippet for {clipboard} which effectively pastes in plain text. I also have workflows to manipulate text that are basically: pbpaste | (do something) | pbcopy

&gt; Replacing Pandoc (GPL and so incompatible the the App Store TOS)

... wait, you can&#x27;t publish an app using GPL components to the app store? What&#x27;s the point of this? .. oh, that made quite some noise around 2010 <a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;lwn.net&#x2F;Articles&#x2F;391423&#x2F;" rel="nofollow">https:&#x2F;&#x2F;lwn.net&#x2F;Articles&#x2F;391423&#x2F; but I had forgotten all about it... Impressed this still stands...

    1. psittacus · · focus · HN ↗
It might not for GPLv3: it tries to sidestep it by explicitly voiding any clauses placing additional restrictions, but Pandoc is using GPLv2

    pbpaste | pbcopy

Make a shell script and add to services

You can&#x27;t put rich text on the clipboard with pbcopy.

But this is basically what I tried first: <a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.jefftk.com&#x2F;p&#x2F;clipboard-normalization" rel="nofollow">https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.jefftk.com&#x2F;p&#x2F;clipboard-normalization
