   > while young people are drinking less alcohol due to health and financial concerns

My observation is that gen-z spends less time socializing in real life, and drinking remains a social habit for the most part at a younger age. While they drink less, cannabis, vaping and psychedelics are on the rise.

It's a nice claim to say they are more responsible, but it tells an incomplete story.

Afaik, they also commit less crimes and get less pregnant as teenagers. They are overall more responsible then the generation that complains about them.

Question is, is it being responsible, or apathetic and lethargic? How do you distinguish responsible character from clinical depression?

By how much work you get done. That's it. You can be the saddest sack of shit in the whole wide world and, as long as you keep being productive, nobody will notice.

At my worst, I kept grinding even though I was one step away from jumping off the nearest bridge so nobody could tell I was this depressed.

We know their attitudes too, yes they are being responsible.

But also, violence, unsafe sex and excessive risk taking are all reactions to mental health problem. People engage in them to make whatever issue they have feel better.
