    > while young people are drinking less alcohol due to health and financial concerns

My observation is that gen-z spends less time socializing in real life, and drinking remains a social habit for the most part at a younger age. While they drink less, cannabis, vaping and psychedelics are on the rise.

It's a nice claim to say they are more responsible, but it tells an incomplete story.

My observation is that the young people who do drink aren't going for beers and wines, which are tastes that can take time to acquire, they're going for sweet liquors and premix cans of fizz.

Getting Gen-z to even get close enough to the glass to smell a nice red is a challenge. And when they do, they seem to recoil rapidly.

      Anecdata only.

roy lee, the founder of cluely got lost his spot in harvard because he was caught "sneaking out" of a high school field trip

if you played hooky on a high school field trip in 80s or 90s you would probably not lose your college admission to harvard

this police state attitude completely sterilizes young people socially, their parents regulate behaviour and monitor people with airtags and life360

Is there an independent source for this story? The guy is not exactly a reliable narrator.

What does police have to do with a field trip? What are you guys doing in the states?

There was no police involved. The police state attitude verbiage used by the OP refers to the constant monitoring of children and teens, by parents or other guardians, using things such as Apple FindMy to the point where teens can’t be mischievous to the degree they were able to in the past.

There’s also the implication that the repercussions are worse.

Lord Byron famously had a tame pet bear at university; he did it because the rules forbade pet dogs explicitly. The police state has been going for a while :)

Apparently until recently there was no rule about skinning bears in the dorms at Cornell. Kids at college can still be kids, at least until the administration catches wind of it
