It is insane how much George Lucas has edited the original Star Wars trilogy. I think no movies have had more edits over time than Star Wars.
Few have made so much money from a trilogy or had such creative freedom. I admit I disliked the laser bolt changes of special editions. Yet otherwise loved seeing some modern CGI fleshing out those worlds.
IIRC the original bolts were opaque in the middle and hazy around the edges. It felt like they were blinding even to cameras and visors. New ones were thinner and evenly transparent, as if someone overlaid some cheap translucent plastic
