Anybody on HN knows platforms to discuss this ?

This is a platform and we are discussing this, which means such a platform isn't enough for what you need. Not judging, actually I've felt a degradation in engagement quality as of late, maybe it's personal bias, but the discussions seem more shallow or aggressive.

In any case, what would you expect from such a platform? That would help with recomendations.

Hacker news is dedicated to 'tech' and I'm looking for advances in biology.

I was in the same place you are now but looking for places to discuss philosophy and looking at the state of mainstream sites like Reddit I decided the open web isn't a place for such discussions because of the sheer volume of noise.

I think the best place to discuss most things nowadays is the real world, but it takes time to build connections in the real world. HN is still a place of real productive discussions but not without a lot of moderation and even so it's still barely functional.

I kinda agree about reddit, either too much noise or gatekeeped (iirc some medical subreddits are mostly students or professionals only).

Just to be clear, I said HN system is barely function but it's by no fault of their own. How can you know for sure I'm not a dog?

I get it. I don't even want something as large and featured as HN. Just a dedicated space.

Me and you both. This could be a theme for a social network, massive just like the rest but in any particular instance anyone won't be able to reach more than a fixed number of people, shuffling periodically.

to avoid concentrating users relationships into bubbles ? i'd be worried there would be no way to build meanful long term conversation (unless I didn't understand your idea)

Maybe you could have permanent access to the threads you stated, but for new interactions you'd be limited to very small group of people for a period of time.

But I thought more in terms of less is more. Introducing artificial temporary scarcity to foster creativity instead of relying on sheer volume of information to increase the chances for high quality interactions, which also increases the absolute volume of low quality noise.

Also maybe after quarantine is over your thread could be accessible to everyone else so others could join later, as long as the group agrees to open up the discussion.

a form of group driven quality enforcement would be cool

Totally, like the original group having moderation powers to remove comments from late posters
