I don't like it when I'm recorded without my consent. But people do that with their phones all the time for TikTok videos, for meta videos, for YouTube videos. Nobody yet has demanded that smartphones be banned or that cameras be removed from smartphones.

It smacks of hypocrisy to me. Either ban them all or allow them all.

We talked about it when it was a newer phenomenon. Some of us grew up when that didn’t exist. Nothing happened.

Now this might be normalized (which feels ugly) but in a few years it could just be “the way things are.”

I wonder what’s next. Constant haze of personal drones over all our heads, incidentally surveilling everyone 24/7 like ring doorbells in the sky?

Sounds about right, though probably it will start with shipping drones. Amazon already has cameras on their drones, of course, so how long until they sell that capability to the highest bidder? And only the FAA can effectively regulate them, which means we are unlikely to see any rollback in the capability. I do not look forward to hearing these things buzzing over my house all day and knowing they are likely recording video of me.
