why don't Japanese auto-makers embrace the super+ hybrid that was embraced by Chinese auto makers. having electric motors and a small engine to constantly charge / drive the motors.

Japanese auto makers are already good at hybrid power trains, small engines.

surely extended range vehicles - 1000km+/700mi+ shouldn't be limited to Chinese brands only.

Chevy had that with the Volt and while it has its fans, it wasn’t exactly a hit.

The volt was more like a Prius Plugin++. It still has a planetary gearset through which the engine would drive the wheels.

The first gen volt basically never drove the wheels via the gas engine.
