    Such a timely post for me personally. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday with my daughter "walking" around the areas in The Netherlands I grew up in. I moved to Canada a long time ago, so my kids grew up here. It was a nice moment of nostalgia (for me) and noticing differences between The Netherlands and Canada for my daughter. We mostly talked about differences in urban planning and design, and how that's obviously better in The Netherlands ;-)

      I recently finished crossing all of Toronto (from West to East) on foot, and had gone through some rmarkably pedestrian-hostile areas. Sometimes its shocking how some parts of a city are designed just for cars. And don't get me started on Markham...
