    Interesting read. Some context that might be fun to know after reading the article is that in order to purchase a car in Tokyo you first need to have a space to park it. So you build your home with a parking space and you park it there, hence why it’s almost always parked back home.

    Another thing is that the houses are only built to last for a couple of decades due to the risk of earthquakes. The lot is more or less what you pay for, while the house standing on the land depreciate very quickly. So most house buyers purchase the land and work with architects to build their own home.
