You have to actually WANT to quit to actually quit smoking, and I don't mean on a superficial level.

You might think, oh I should really quit smoking because it is bad for my health. But if you don't make a decision and change your core mentality that you really want to stop smoking, you'll just go back to it at some point, no matter what "trick" you use.

Most people who think they want to quit are still in the "wanting to want to quit" phase. When I truly decided to quit (because of a family health issue), I quit cold turkey and never touched a cigarette again.

Yes, I think you formulated what I think in a much better way. I quit by going cold turkey one day, but it was not out of nowhere, it took me a while to reach that mental point where I wanted to really quit.

The best part of it is that it is not that hard to stop smoking.

This is why Alan Carr’s book is an excellent resource and easy to mention to any smoker. I found his idea around every smoker always wanting to quit fairly true. I wanted to quit smoking since the day I started, but the amount of mental hurdles I was able to put in my own way is exactly what stopped me from giving it a serious attempt.
