What is this comment responding to? I don't think anybody in this thread, or the article itself, believes "emitting words" is what writing is?
It may not have been responding to anyone in particular, to be honest with you. I think it's important that people remember that a big chunk of what writing is, is the time spent thinking about the topic you're writing about. People take writing for granted. They forget that it is a technology itself.
