It's like those dilapidated buildings in NYC where the ground floor is some store but everything upstairs is basically uninhabitable decay. The store makes enough rental income to justify not renovating the upper floors into something actually usable.

We'll never cure all of the at once, which is what "cure cancer" means, but we've been curing plenty of them lately!
timr · · focus · HN ↗
The pancreatic cancer drug was a rare exception. Most new cancer drugs are expensive and of dubious efficacy.
dekhn · · focus · HN ↗
I meant, when somebody stops having cancer, we don't say they were cured. We say they are remission. That's because even if you completely remove all visible tumor, 20 years later, a new tumor with the same genetic/cellular origin can arise.
But the other meaning- modified slightly: "it is unlikely we will find a generic treatment that affects all types of cancer, since the underlying etiology of different incidences of cancer varies so much", is definitely also true.

Hear the sound of trees. The smell of nature. Feel the sun warming your face.
You mind will trick you, convince you "youre too busy for this", "youre hungry", "your back hurts you cant lie down", "you should be doing X", anything to not stay under the tree, dont resist those thoughts, just observe them as they fly by, but take no action on them.
Rest without guilt is a trait all masters must develop once they get past the adrenaline urgency phase of their skill mastery.
Dont take your devices, dont take a book, just sit, 3 hours minimum.
Go human, you are amazing!

So too with knowledge. The path to never believing anything false would be to simply minimize the amount you learn, and certainly to avoid learning anything developed within the past century or so. It's not a great perspective for self betterment. Learning from one's mistakes is the path to improvement in most of every domain. Mistakes and falsehoods are nothing to regret. If anything, they're something to rejoice over. It's only the fool, or the child, that believes all he thinks must be true.

Okay, sure, explore away. But I'm not coming along, and if you find any jeweled skulls don't touch them.
AnotherGoodName · · focus · HN ↗
The warning needs to transcend language so you probably think a skull is pretty clear right? Put a big skull there, maybe make it light up or eye catching in some way just to really seal the deal? Surely they understand "don't go near this". Yet in a million years time you're probably going to get some explorer "finding the mysterious and cursed crystal skull" who will subsequently die of "the mysterious curse". It would have made a more interesting ending for that Indiana Jones movie that's for sure.

I kinda wish they had used
> This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.
> What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

I feel that adorning the skull with jewels will puree the "No! No! NO!" message, in any epoch.

Stopping any science results that may be contrary to the Egyptian government's official view of history is awful!

> On November 2, 2017, the Egyptologist Zahi Hawass told the New York Times: "They found nothing...This paper offers nothing to Egyptology. Zero." Later, once the North Face Corridor was inspected with an Endoscope, Hawass conversely commented that ScanPyramids's work had provided a "major discovery" that would "enter houses and homes of people all over the world for the first time".

> In protest of the government's increasing restrictions, Carter and his associates stopped work in February 1924, beginning a legal dispute that lasted until January 1925. Under the agreement that resolved the dispute, the artefacts from the tomb would not be divided between the government and the dig's sponsors, as had been standard practice on previous Egyptological digs.
Why they did have a rule that private persons can take away the artifacts? It would be better not to dig anything.
