Full-stack engineer, 7+ years. Deep in JS/TS, React, Node, PHP/Laravel, SQL. Also Go and Rust for systems work.

    Recent things I've shipped:

    • PanelOS — real-time digital signage system: Go backend pushes commands to Raspberry Pi display clients over WebSockets (Centrifugo). Millisecond delivery, self-contained slide rendering so displays never break on flaky connectivity. Has run without intervention since launch.

    • Kestrel — solo eBPF runtime-security dashboard: a Go agent captures kernel events (process exec, file access, network) and feeds a SvelteKit UI with a live process tree, network map, and rule-based alerts. Brings a graphical layer to a space (Falco, etc.) that's otherwise headless. https://github.com/1-bit-wonder/kestrel

    • Claude-powered customer-service chatbot — grounded in site + brand content, running in production. Learned that scope constraints + grounding beat raw prompt size for eliminating location-specific hallucinations.

    • Job Application Platform (tools.nigelstewart.dev) — self-built edge platform on Astro + Cloudflare Workers/D1. Single source-of-truth career profile drives a unified artifact generator (resumes, proposals, screening answers) via Claude with strict-JSON structured outputs, plus an application tracker and conversational refinement loop.

Before this: Tech Lead at BC Children's Hospital (2018–2021) — led a team of 6, maintained 15+ production clinical web apps serving ~20,000 monthly users, migrated the portfolio to Azure with Docker + CI/CD, cut 10+ second load times to under one second.

I took a career-development period after BCCH — stayed technically active with independent projects and systems study — and I'm now fully focused on software again.

Looking for: full-time remote (or hybrid/on-site in BC). Strong preference for roles where I can work deep on real systems — product engineering, infra-adjacent work, or anything touching LLM integration, real-time systems, or security tooling. Open to hearing about interesting contract work too.
